This week I visited Allerton Park in Monticello, IL. Allerton is an interesting mix of formal gardens, meadow, woodland and prairie areas. I went for the peony garden, which was just starting to open up. There are over 60 varieties of peonies planted in color blocks. There are also grape vines being trained along the wall. I favor the double bloom peonies but I have a new appreciation for some of the singles. I loved the prairie moon peony. If your in the area you’ve got a couple more weeks to see the show. Here are a few highlights.
